DINO EXPERIMENT 517

QUESTION:

Did the Incisivosaurus make friends with other Incisivosaurus?

BACKGROUND RESEARCH NOTES:

  • Some dinosaurs stick together in groups.

MY PLAN:

Become an Incisivosaurus and try to make friends!

FIELD NOTES:

  • I met a group of Incisivosaurus! One gave me a tomato, so I gathered some fruits and veggies to share with my new Incisivosaurus friends!
  • We all worked together to watch out for predators.
  • A Dromaeosaurus came towards us so I threw my Incisivosaurus backpack at the Dromaeosaurus to try and protect me and my new friends, but without my backpack the Incisivosaurus pack didn’t recognize me as their friend because I didn’t look like them!
  • I put on some Incisivosaurus make up and was welcomed back in the pack!

FINDING:

The Incisivosaurus make friends so they can find food together, look out for predators, and protect each other by staying together.

FOR TEACHERS / PARENTS:

  • About the Episode: In this episode, Dana investigates whether the Incisivosaurus can make friends with other Incisivosaurus. She dresses up to look like an Incisivosaurus and learns that some dinosaurs, including the Incisivosaurus, make friends to share food and protect each other from other dinosaurs.
  • Extension Activity: Just like dinosaurs like to make friends, so do humans! What are some of the ways that you make friends? Do you share your snacks with other kids like the Incisivosaurus? Do you help your friends?
Have your child list some of their favourite things they like to do with their friends and try doing some of those things with them! You can even video call one of their friends and set up a virtual playdate so they can enjoy their favourite activities together!
  • Heart Moment: In this episode, Dana tries to make friends with the Incisivosaurus by sharing her food and protecting them from the Dromaeosaurus. Encouraging healthy friendships and positive relationships is important at this age. Have your child reflect on their friendships and talk about the qualities that make up a good friend. Can your child remember a time when they shared something with a friend or protected them from something? Has your child ever witnessed a friend being bullied? You can talk to them about the best ways to support their friend if that happens.
